Model United nations
During this project we learned about the current events going on in the world today. We focused mostly on what is going on North Korea and the ongoing war in Israel. We learned about the Multiple threats that have been made by Pyongyang and Kim Jong Un. We also learned about the unstable mental state of the current leader of North Korea. During our research on the conflict in Israel we delved into the long history of conflict between these two nations and also the current things happening over there. We got to get a little perspective on both outlooks of what is going on.

Even though North Korea should have the right to defend itself, it’s leaders are unstable and prone to violence which could cause them to use Nuclear weapons irrationally.
The General Assembly,
Reminding all Nations, that missiles possessed by North Korea remain to be a danger every nation. North Korea is believed to have nuclear weapons that can reach Japan and South Korea. Kim Jong Un recently had his uncle Jung Song Thaek Killed, “Kim Jong-un’s uncle was killed after being stripped naked and fed to a pack of hungry dogs, according to reports in a Chinese state-backed newspaper,”(Kim). These weapons have been tested underground recently. “The underground explosion could take North Korea a big step closer to its goal of building a nuclear warhead small enough to be mounted on a long-range missile that could threaten the United States.” They have warned the U.S. with these Nuclear weapons them and other countries as well. These threats must be taken seriously and dealt with. North Korea’s leaders in Pyongyang are unpredictable and they are always close to violent actions. They have possessed these weapons against the wishes of the United Nations for sometime. All Nations have been searching for ways to fix this problem. The U.S.A. has been trying to protect Japan and South Korea with their Nuclear umbrella but what happens when that stops working?
Proposing that we cut the country of North Korea off completely. Once they destroy any Nuclear weapons they can be helped by us other nations but not before they destroy their Nuclear weapons. They have tried to be independent from other countries before but their leader relies on his aphrodisiacs from the many countries around the world China will stop trading with them as well as any other trading partners of theirs. They will need support soon after this occurs and they will be informed that the only way to regain their allies support is to give up their nuclear weapons. they must also let their country be examined by a country of the UN’s choosing. Only after they give up their Nuclear weapons and allow a country to inspect their lands will we begin to trade with them. This is a low expense way to solve this problem and it will harm a much smaller amount of people than Nuclear warfare.

Noting with approval that many attempts have been made to Denuclearize North Korea and have failed.
Having considered that North Korea has been testing these weapons very recently underground.
Fully Aware that North Korea must denuclearize
Noting with deep concern that North Korea has made multiple threats to multiple nations. “North Korea issued new threats against South Korea On Tuesday, vowing "sledge-hammer blows" of retaliation if South Korea did not apologize for anti-North Korean protests the previous day when the North was celebrating the birth of its founding leader,” (North).
Emphasizing that something be done about this Nuclear problem.
Fully believing that a solution can be agreed upon
1. Noting that not all will agree on this resolution
2. Expresses hope that a compromise can be found
3. Calls into consideration that a peaceful solution would profit most best
4. Considers that an import export embargo be set on North Korea
(a) they must hand over all of their nukes in order to regain help from their trading partners
(b)If they Refuse to this then Kim Jong Un will find he is without his rare delicacies
5. Prompting all nations to realize this is a low expense and reduced harm way to solve this problem.
6. Further noting that if nothing is done then this problem will soon rear it’s ugly head
7. Comparing this to nuclear warfare much less people will be harmed
8. Further prompting UN to step in with military force if nothing is changed in North Korea
9. Urging all nations to realize that this problem cannot be ignored any longer
10. In hopes of solving this problem

United States Position on Israel Palestine Conflict
Although the U.S does not think that the Palestinians should get the right of return because they left their homeland when they were most needed, we also realize that these Israeli settlements are illegitimate because the Israelis have already taken enough of the Palestinians land.
The conflict in Israel has be going on for more than 50 years. There is no easy solution on what to do in order to solve this conflict. This conflict began directly after World War II and was a consequence of the holocaust that took place during this dreadful war. After the holocaust the Jewish people got a lot of sympathy and then they were given the state of Israel even though this place was already the home of the Palestinians. Israel is the only place where the Jewish hold majority. Palestinians had already been occupying Israel and they were not happy that these people were just invading their country without thought to their basic human rights. Palestinians asked for help from Egypt, Syria, Jordan. “The invading Arab armies were initially on the offensive but the Israelis soon recovered from the initial shock of being invaded on all sides,”(History). Israel ended up forcing these Arab states out. While this was going on many palestinians were fleeing the country. There has been a major question as to whether or not these refugees should be allowed to return to Israel. The palestinians that stayed behind were put in either the West Bank or Gaza Strip. Slowly these states have become smaller and smaller. The Israelis have been making illegal settlement in these already small enough states.
The reason for the perspective that the U.S has is because the Jews are a big part of our government. The Jews also carried a big part in the flowering of the U.S. Even though we are big supporters of the Jews we realize that these settlement are illegitimate. "The United States of America views all of the settlements as illegitimate,"(What) We feel this way because we know that much of the palestinians land was already taken from them. Taking more would be unfair and unjust. We also are one of the biggest supporters of Israel because we had much pity for them after world war II. Knowing that the Jews have no place in the world that they have majority vote also gained them pity. “Knowing that 24,845 Israelis have died and 90,785 Palestinians”(Total). The U.S does realize that something must be done to stop this violence in Israel.
A good way to solve this conflict would be to split this country exactly in half take all of the existing residents of Palestine and place them in this newly formed state. All refugees I propose to be naturalized into the countries in which they reside. The Israelis will receive the other half of the state. an unbiased force will patrol the border until relations calm down. I think that both parties will agree to this because it contains both their interests. They will share Jerusalem and both states will have access to the Mediterranean Sea and they will share borders with the Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan. In the city of Jerusalem no violence will be permitted. This will be heavily enforced by a biased party provided by the U.N. Both Parties will be rewarded with Aid if they agree to these terms. Incentives have been shown to be effective in the past. “One of the key findings reveals that only eight percent of the workers surveyed would have achieved goals without an incentive program. If they do not then heavy economic sanctions will be place on these States.

RESOLUTION
United States (Berr Kilgo)
Solution to Israel/Palestine Issue
THE SOLUTION TO ISRAEL PALESTINE ISSUE
The General Assembly,
Affirming that the United States recognizes that the settlements made by the Israelis in the State of Palestine are illegitimate,
Realizing that enough lands have been taken from the Palestinian People without consideration to their basic human rights,
Having considered all outlooks on the current situation,
Noting with regret that many unsuccessful attempts have been made to come to an agreement such as, “Faisal-Weizmann Agreement 1919”,
Deeply regretting that all past attempts at peace have been short lived or totally unsuccessful,
Desiring Israel to be a state that Jews hold majority in,
Believing that Israel is not responsible for Palestinian refugees. “ Israel would not allow a single Palestinian refugee to return to what is now Israel, and that they bore no responsibility for the refugees because their plight resulted from an attack by Arab Nations on Israel when it was a fledgeling state,” (Olmert)
Guided by the hope that a peaceful agreement can be made in order to solve this conflict,
Bearing in mind that, “At least 1,104 Israelis and 6,836 Palestinians have been killed since September 29, 2000.” (Israelis),
Convinced that if nothing is done this bloodshed will continue and perhaps increase,
Noting with deep concern that these illegitimate settlements are holding peace agreements back,
Bearing in mind that it is the U.N’s duty to help with peaceful relations,
1. Expresses its hope for this resolution to have a greater effect than those in the past;
2. Draws attention to the illegitimate settlements set up by the Israelis in the state of Palestine;
3. Recommends that all residents in these illegal settlements are relocated;
(a) All of these residents would be moved to temporary homes;
(b) They would be put in Permanent homes when they are found in the State of Israel;
(c )The residents who refuse to do this would be tightly sanctioned until they agree;
(d) If these sanctions have no effect then these residents will be forcefully removed and relocated;
(e) If all residents cooperate they will be provided with Aid;
4. Has resolved that a two state agreement is the most realistic and possible solution;
(a) Returning to the 1947 Partition Plan borders;
(b) These borders would be patrolled by an unbiased party provided by the U.N;
(c ) This unbiased party would be removed when relations become more friendly;
(d) Both states will be sanctioned heavily if they do not cooperate;
(e) If these sanctions do not provide enough incentive than a peacekeeping force will be sent in to forcefully relocate;
(f) If an agreement is reached than aid will be provided;
5. Strongly supports the naturalization of refugees in whichever country they reside;
(a) All refugees will become legal citizens of whichever country they reside;
(b) Aid will be provided by the U.N to these countries in order to support these refugees;
6. Encourages the U.N to be unbiased towards either party and for their only aim to be peace;
7. Draws attention to the fact that both parties must agree in order to create peace;
8. Urges both states to accept these terms in order to prevent further bloodshed;
9. Calls upon the U.N to deliver these terms to both Israel and Palestine;

Mun reflection
I think that the Model United Nations project was important because it opened up my classmates and my eyes to the fact that there are a lot of important things going on outside of my little reality. It is important that we learn this because learning that your problems don't even pale to the problems that are going on in the bigger world makes you appreciate your light a little bit more. Before this project I had heard about North Korea and the Israel Palestine Issue but they just seemed like distant issue that I didn't want to think about. This project really brought these problems to reality and just made me realize that these problems wont go away, something must be done. I used to think that North Korea was a huge country that was run by a lunatic and that they tried to nuke us in the past. Then I realized how inaccurate this is. I now know who the lunatic is that is running the country and that they have only threatened to nuke United States.
I think that the Habit of Heart of Mind hat I am most proud of using is perspective. I really took initiative and did extra research which helped me learn everyone in this conflicts perspective. I am most proud of this because I haven't done super well with this in the past and this time I was able to take initiative. During the conference I did really well with perspective as well. I was able to listen to what other people said and take in there perspective and let it mold my own perspective. When I listened to Emily William's speech I heard a few think that I had not heard before and this influenced my speech and improved my speech.
The greatest challenge that I faced during this project was learning how to write a paper in a point of view that I don't agree with. In the North Korea section of this I mostly agreed with my countries point of view but I did not agree with everything in the Israel Palestine issue. For example the U.S thinks that using military force at the lat resort in order to remove the occupants of the illegal settlements is unfair. I do not think this is unfair I think it is reasonable as well as sensible. If these people are not given the right amount of incentive then they will not move. I actually lost a few points on my resolution because of this. I strayed a little bit away of what the U.S thinks.
In my opinion the best speech that I heard was Benji Mickels, he was on the side of allowing the right of return to the newly formed State of Palestine. His speech brought me new perspective and I was able to change my speech based on his. he made a lot of very good points in his speech and I focused on responding to what he had said. At one point in his speech he said something like although 2c is not a perfect solution with a few amendment it could be a compromisable one. This inspired me to change my closing statement. Benji Mickels speech was in my opinion, not perfect but he did very well on it for sure.
