Seminar Prewrite:
1. What masks do Danny and Uno wear?
I think that the masks that Uno and Danny wear depend on who they're with at the time.
2. Use the concepts of socialization to explain the book "Mexican Whiteboy"

Seminar Reflection:
Claire made some really good points during the seminar. She also made some points that I disagreed with. At one point she said something along the lines of, “When will Danny’s mom start caring about him?” I disagree with her opinion about Danny's mom not caring about him. I don’t think that she doesn’t care about him, I just think that she is bad at letting Danny know that she does care about him. I also think that she is bad at showing Danny how much she cares about him. She just has trouble wording and speaking about her feeling with Danny. When Claire said this it made me think twice about the comments I may have made about Danny’s mom. Its always good to rethink what comes out of your mouth and this comment that Claire made helped me do this.
In the seminar we spent a lot of time talking about the masks that Uno and Danny wear in their everyday life. At one point we said, “Uno covers his fear with a mask of anger.” This reminded a little bit about an article two of my classmates read. This article was about the Macho Men in Spain. The article spoke about a way of life for teenagers and young men in Spain. The way that Uno was acting throughout the book “Mexican Whiteboy” was a lot like the Macho men in Spain. He was acting tough and also like a so called “bad boy”. Also towards the end of the book Uno started to act a little bit like a gentlemen towards the girls. The way that Uno acted in the book was a pretty good example of a Macho Man.
I think that I gave good insight on the topic. I was really able to speak my thoughts in a tangible and clear way. I think that I also made some people think a little harder on the subject at hand. When the question of Danny’s mom came up I asked, “When will Danny’s mom take more interest in Danny’s well being?”. I think that this brought up some good things in our discussion. One of the things that I could have worked on was using more evidence. With almost everything I said I backed it up with almost no evidence. I didn't ever note the page that something happened on. I could have done this plenty more times if I had prepared more carefully.
There were many beautiful things that were said. I think that the most beautiful was When Vivian said that It is hard to find a happy medium. What she said was so true. Finding a happy medium is so important and it is also very challenging to do. I find that often in my life I have trouble doing this very thing. I will either take things too far of I wont take them anywhere at all. I went through this phase when 4 days out of the week I would wake up at 5:30 to bike to the Recreation Center to work out. I may have been overdoing it then but now I am lazy and I don’t work out nearly enough. If all of us could find happy mediums in things we did then the world would be a perfect place. So I think that this is the most beautiful line because of the truth that it entails.
